Chance listings policy

Listings that offer an opportunity to win an item by chance or contest aren't allowed on eBay.

See our policy below to learn more about what isn’t allowed and the guidelines for what is allowed.

What is the policy?

Items not allowed include:

  • Contests
  • Lotteries
  • Raffles
  • Random drawings

Items that we allow must follow these guidelines:

  • Bonuses are allowed as long as identical bonuses are included for all buyers
  • Case breaks, box breaks, and pack breaks may be sold by pre-approved sellers only, and the buyer must receive the entire pack, box, or slot they purchased
  • Grab bags or mystery boxes may be listed under the following conditions:
    • The listing contains general information about what is included
    • The listing does not single out items with monetary or collector's value unless they are included with every purchase
  • Giveaways and sweepstakes must be pre-approved and conducted through an official partnership with eBay through eBay Live

Activity on eBay is required to follow this policy, the eBay User Agreement and all applicable laws, as well as respect the rights of third parties. If it doesn’t, eBay may take action consistent with applicable laws and the eBay User Agreement, and may even be legally required to do so. Such actions may include, as an example only: Removing the listing or other content, issuing a warning, restricting activity or account suspension.
