Researching vehicles, parts, and accessories

Before you buy, plan to spend some time researching the type of vehicle and options you need. If you're buying a part or accessory, check the product specifications. Carefully read the seller’s description. Here are some additional tips to help you evaluate a listing:

  • Many vehicle listings include a vehicle history report from HPI - opens in new window or tab. Select the Vehicles History Report tab in the listing to see it. If the seller hasn’t provided a report, you can purchase one
  • Check out other listings before you decide what you're willing to pay
  • Use extra caution if an item is listed significantly below the suggested retail price
  • Be realistic in your expectations of used or older vehicles — expect normal "wear and tear"
  • Personally visit or have a vehicle inspection service - opens in new window or tab visit the vehicle to ensure accurate representation

Consider not only the cost of the vehicle, but also insurance, registration, and taxes.

Bidding and buying on eBay Motors

Check the listing to find out your options for buying the vehicle or item. You might be able to bid on the item, use the Buy it now option to buy it at a fixed price, make the seller a Best Offer, or buy through a local Classified Ad.

If you want to bid £15,000 or more, you'll need to provide a valid credit card - opens in new window or tab (your card won't be charged).

Check the seller's feedback rating, and contact the seller with any questions. Don't place a bid or buy if the seller doesn't respond to your questions, or can't be reached by email or phone.

When searching for parts, use the Find Parts & Accessories menu on the eBay Motors homepage - opens in new window or tab, or select your saved vehicle in My Garage - opens in new window or tab.

eBay checks your vehicle details against the item compatibility information provided by the seller. If the item will fit your vehicle, you'll see a checkmark on the listing.

If the part or accessory you purchased does not fit your vehicle, you can return it for free within 30 days of receiving it for a full refund (some exceptions may apply). Learn more about eBay Assured Fit - opens in new window or tab.

Tyre installation services

When you purchase tyres from a participating seller on eBay, you can choose to add the cost of installation to your purchase.

When you do, you can pick from our network of trusted eBay installation partners. When the purchase is complete, you'll receive a confirmation email from us with the details of your order and your tyres will be shipped directly to the installer you selected. You'll then receive a second email directly from your installer with information on how to schedule an appointment with them.

You need to bring a photo ID and a copy of your confirmation email to your appointment with the installer.

Tip
Some tyre shops are not equipped to install very large or specialty tyres. If you can't find a local installer for the tyres you need, contact the seller before making your purchase.
