Discounts Manager

Discounts Manager - formerly Promotions Manager - provides eBay Shop subscribers with an easy way to set up special offers on eBay. Discounts can help you attract more buyers, clear old stock, increase average order size, and even lower postage costs by bundling more items per order.

You can set up four different types of special offers using Discounts Manager:

  • Order discounts – Offer discounts based on order size, or the amount spent by a buyer. You can also create discounts such as a percentage off an additional item, or buy one get one free
  • Multi-buy – Offer tiered discounts to your buyers when they purchase multiple quantities of your items
  • Coupons – Offer exclusive discounts to buyers by using a coded coupon
  • Sales event – Reduce prices for selected items or categories

Using Discounts Manager

You can access Discounts Manager from the Marketing - opens in new window or tab tab in Seller Hub. If you don't use Seller Hub, you can find Discounts Manager in the Account - opens in new window or tab section of My eBay, under Marketing Tools.

For items to be eligible for Discounts Manager, your listing must be in fixed-price format with Buy It Now pricing.

Items will appear at the advertised price, and the discount will be applied in your buyer's shopping basket.

Tip
If you changed the price of an item as part of a sale, you'll need to wait 14 days before including it as part of a new sale.

How to create an Order discount

  1. Go to the Marketing tab in Seller Hub and select Discounts.
  2. Select Create discount then Order discount.
  3. Select your category and objective (e.g. introduce new items, attract buyers at peak shopping times, move older items) and we’ll recommend some discounts for you.
  4. Select your offer type, and how you want to apply the offer to your items (e.g. Save £10 when you spend £100 or more, or Save 20% when you buy 3 items or more).
  5. Choose Select Items to manually add items to your discount, or Create Rules, to automatically select items based on category and price, with filters based on product identifiers.
  6. Give your offer a name, duration, description and an offer image and then select Launch.

How to create a Multi-Buy discount

  1. Go to the Marketing tab in Seller Hub and select Discounts.
  2. Select Create discount then Multi-Buy.
  3. Choose Select items to add up to 500 items using filters, or Create rules, to apply Multi-Buy automatically to a selection of your inventory.
  4. Give your offer a name. (Your buyers won’t see this name.)
  5. Decide on the level of discount you want to offer based on the quantity of items the buyer selects. For example: Buy one t-shirt at full price, buy 2 t-shirts and save 5%, buy 3 t-shirts and save 10%, buy 4 or more t-shirts and save 15%.
  6. Review your discount and select Launch.

How to create coupons

eBay shop subscribers can create and share their own discount codes for buyers. Here's how to create a coupon:

From the Marketing tab in Seller Hub
  1. Select Discounts.
  2. Select Create a discount, then Coupons.
  3. Set the discounts and conditions of your offer and choose eligible items. You can also choose to set a budget and other usage limits for your offer.
  4. Add an image and a short description for the coupon.
  5. Schedule your offer or select Start Immediately.
  6. Review and select Launch coupon.

From your Active listings page:
  1. In Active listings, select one or more fixed price, multi-quantity listings.
  2. Select Add or review discounts.
  3. From the pop-up, select Coupon.

On the eBay app:
  1. Select the menu icon on the home screen.
  2. Tap Selling, then tap Orders.
  3. Tap Send coupon or Boost buyer engagement.
  4. On the Send coupon screen, tap Create coupon.
  5. Enter the details of your offer, including a description, duration, and image.
  6. Tap Launch coupon.

When you create coupons on the eBay app, the coupon code needs to be unique across eBay, and your campaign will begin immediately after you launch the coupon.

Here are some benefits of using coupons:

  • Send a printed coupon code in your order to encourage repeat purchases
  • Offer a discount to customers instead of adjusting the item price
  • Control your spend on discounts and protect selling your margins with options like minimum spend, expiry date, budget, etc.

You can stack coupons with sale events and shipping discounts, however, coupons are not stackable with other discounts such as order discount and volume pricing.

If several discounts are running concurrently on an item, your buyers will get the best discount. If an item has a Best Offer or Offer to buyers, the offer takes priority, and the coupon cannot be applied.

How to create a Sale event

  1. Go to the Marketing tab in Seller Hub and select Discounts.
  2. Select Create discount then Sale event.
  3. Choose your discount, e.g (Take 30% off each item or take £10 off each item.)
  4. Choose Select Items to manually add items to your discounts or Create Rules, to automatically select items based on category and price, with filters based on product identifiers.
  5. Give your offer a name, duration, description and an offer image and and then select Launch.

Tip
Sales figures and a tracking graph for your discounts will be shown in the Marketing - opens in new window or tab tab.

Editing a discount

To edit or change the status of a discount go to the Marketing tab in Seller Hub and select Discounts, find the Discount you want to edit, then select Edit from the Action dropdown menu beside it.

Sharing coded coupons on social media platforms

When you create a new coded coupon, you will have the option to share the coupon through the following social media platforms:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Pinterest
  • Whatsapp
  • Email

When sharing a coupon, you can edit the caption with up to 280 characters. By default, a link to the coded coupon terms and conditions will always be included.

If you choose to share a coded coupon at a later point in time, as long as the coupon is “Active”, you can select the “Share” option from the action list next to each active coupon in Discounts Manager.

Using Discounts Manager, you can create special offers ranging from 'buy one, get one free' to discounted postage.
